Xmas decoration: paper snowflakes

Following my Xmas decoration plan, I stuck snowflakes and stars in the  stairs, and also snowflakes in the tv. Now I’m writing this post to show off (of course!) and to tell you my experience doing it. It was the first time I worked with glitter and paper, and I learned some things from my experience (and mainly, from my mistakes!)

Doing a garden in fabric

These days I feel romantic. This is really weird, because I’m  the least romantic person in the world. And most of the time, this is reflected in my dress style. I like to wear sexy or sport clothes. But sometimes I like to add romantic accessories to my style. Maybe because I feel more naive, or more feminine? And why? Am I in love? Or simply, it will have to do with my hormonal cycles?

Anyway, I’ve been doing flowers with the remains of fabric that  had. I followed two different techniques, very easy both, and with different results.

T-shirt recon without sewing!

Inspired by this video posted in ThreadBanger, I transform a t-shirt using only my scissors (without sewing). The original T-shirt was this:

1- Fisrt, I cut the neck about 3cm away from the original neckline, as you can see in the picture:

2- I cut two strips at the bottom of the t-shirt. This way, I made the t-shirt shorter (it was very long) and I got two strips that I’d use later on:

3- I cute the sleeves along the length, without detach them from the t-shirt, as you can see in the picture:

4- I made two small cuts at both sides of the t-shirt, at waist level.  Then, I put one of the strips through both holes.

6- Finally, I cut the other strip in half and with the two resulting strips I tied the shoulders of the t-shirt.

7- To wear it, you only have to tight the t-shirt to the waist with the strip, and made a bow  behind.  This is the result:

Bolsa=caca (bag=yukky)

These days we can see in Spain an advertising campaign called “Bolsa=caca” (this is: bag=yukky) (this link contains objetive information about the campaign, it’s not the official website of the campaign!) . This campaign tries to  make people aware of how dangerous for the environment the plastic bags are. The campaign belongs to the company “Carrefour”, and obviously, they would save a lot of money if people didn’t use their plastic bags. But anyway, the important thing is: plastic bags are yukky! And the best option is, as always, to have reusable bags.

How to get your reusable bag? You have two options:

1- Do it in fabric: Long time ago TOP SHOP posted in its web how to do your own eco-bag in fabric, and here is the link.

2- Do it in paper: You can do your bag from a newspaper,  following the instrutions in this website (in japanese) or also you can see the video in youtube:

How I rock my jeans

I made a lot of  holes in my jeans and here is the result (worn with skull leggings under them)

And here the tutorial to get a worn out aspect:
1- I took a pair of old jeans that I didn’t use:
old_trousers
2- I draw the holes in the jeans and I cut them with scissors:

3- And finally I rub the holes with a paper cutter to get the worn aspect, as you can see in the next picture. If you do this, try to put something inside the jeans to not to damage the back. I put a newspaper (sometimes newspapers are useless)

Very Simply T-shirt recon. Halter neck

This weekend I made a very simply t-shirt recon. Here is the tutorial:

1- Cut the t-shirt as I show in the next picture. As you can see, you have the pattern of the t-shirt (the front and the back, in dotted line) and two strips. You will need the entire strip number 2, and only the half (or even less) of the strip number 3.

2- Sew the 3 pieces as I show in the second picture.  This is, the strip number 3 will be the central part of the front, and sew the strip number 2 to the back, to both sides of the front and then sew its extremes. This strip will pass behind your neck.

sewing3- Finally, gather the neck in its central part. This is the result:

How to customize a gym bag

Long time ago, a hairdresser gave me a black and white gym bag, very useful but bored.

bored_simply_gym_bag

I decided customize it with some sequins and this picture:

Why the piratebay’s logo? Well, here in Spain, and in other European countries, we pay a special tax whenever we buy an electronic device. It’s like a kind of fine for making ilegal copies of music and filmes. Since I must pay this tax… I must be a pirate!

That said, go ahead with the work!

The process is simple: I didn’t dare to stick the sequins directly in the bag, so I sticked them in a piece of fabric and then, I stick the fabric to the bag. As the bag is mainly black, the piece of fabric is black.

I used contact adhesive, because is the best to stick fabric and plastic. And believe, the sequins are well stuck!

And, of course, I didn’t stuck the sequins one by one! Jesus! Never do that! Because anyway it’s going to be a looong work. Spread the glue on the fabric, and then put the sequins on. It’s supposed that you must put glue in both sequins and fabric, but I only put it on the fabric and it worked.

Here is the final result:

Tutorial t-shirt recon – naïf

Some people in t-shirt surgery asked me for the tutorial of one of the t-shirts that I showed in my last post. Well, I don’t have pictures of the procces, but anyway, I’ve been playing with my computer and here it is!

1 – Take the big t-shirt that you’re going to recon and another one of your t-shirts, one of those that fits you sooo well. Put one over the other to mark the pattern. To mark it on the sleeves (the most difficult part) you can use pins, putting them across both t-shirts and following the seam the small t-shirt. That way, you can move the sleeve of the small t-shirt and mark the pattern in the big t-shirt.

making_the_pattern

2 – Cut the big t-shirt 2 cm away from the pattern, to have a seam allowance. Don’t trhow the rest of the fabric away: you will use it later.

3 – Sew both sides of the t-shirt.

4 – Now we will make the neck: Cut the neck like in the next picture. You will have to sew it later in the slit.

neck5 – Take the fabric that you cut in step 4. Cut the neck line.

neck_fabric

6 – Then take the fabric you cut in step 2, and cut a strip, a long strip. Tie this strip around the fabric of the step 5 and the slit of the t-shirt. Voilá! You have your neck with the bow.

7 – Now we’re going to do the sleeves. Take the sleeves of the big t-shirt (you cut them in the step 2) and cut a small strip of fabric like in the picture:

sleeve8 – Sew them following the lines I draw in the next picture, but don’t joint the pieces of fabric! You’re sewing them to gather them. And for that, once you have sewed them, take both extremes of the thread and pull of them.

9 – Take the rest of fabric of the step 7 (it must be strip) and sew it to the sleeve. You have gathered the sleeve, so you’ll have a rest. I recommend to begin to sew on the top of the sleeve. That way the seam of the strip will match with the seam of the sleeve.

10 -  Finally, sew the sleeves to the t-shirt. As before, I recommend to begin sewing the top of the sleeve.

Tutorial – Your favorite band strapless t-shirt and other two t-shirt recons.

In this post I’ll explain how to do strapless t-shirt like this:

DIY - Dandy Warhols strapless t-shirt

1 – First, I used a normal and big red t-shirt and one of my strapless t-shirts to do the pattern. Many people think that you have to do a tube in fabric to do a strapless t-shirt. But taking your pattern from another t-shirt, you will be sure that your new t-shirt will fit you perfectly.

For that, I put one over the other and I marked my pattern with pins.

2 – Then, I sew the pattern:

sewing the t-shirt

3 – To paint the drawing in the t-shirt, I transfer it printing it a sheet and putting this sheet over the fabric. Then, I rubbed the sheet with alcohol. That way, the ink is transferred to the fabric. Then I used a pen (special for fabric) because is cheap and accurate.

In this picture you can see the result: IMG_0592

4 – Finally, I decorated it with a lace ending. It’s not elastic, so it’s important to take well the measure over your chest.
